Fantastic food, fantastic service, and dog friendly!
Henry's homemade sauce, macaroni salads, whisky pudding, tri tip , rib, and chicken are out of this world. I have traveled all over this country, lived in Texas and Alaska. i have runfood service establishments but pardner you want eats? Then come on down to Henry,s! The best in the west!

Baked? Um, the little
black metal box on wheels of to the side is
called a BBQ Pit, folks, but what should I
expect from a state that has no BBQ tradition.
Anyway, onto the food. Pulled pork? This is
definitely different from either of the North
Carolina styles, eastern and western. I ordered
the three item combo, pulled pork, ribs, and tri
tip. The pulled pork was moist, not dry like so
much of the chopped pork I was raised on. Good
flavor, not overly smokey, I bet it would be
great on a sandwich. The ribs were the wild
card for me. Most places who serve cook ribs
don't do it right. Too many of the "gourmet"
restaurants due to their culinary school
influences braise their ribs the attempt to
finish them on the grill with burned sauce.
Others use gas grills resulting in ribs that
are dry and flavorless. Henry's ribs were
obviously BBQed. They were tender, moist,
flavorful and cooked low and slow enough that
the bones moved freely in the meat. The tri
tip, which is something you don't find back
east, was very good as well. I will have to try
and get my local grocery store to get some of
that in. I ordered the sauce on the side for
all of the meats since BBQ is all about the
meat! The sauce was surpirising! I must
confess that I do not generally like most BBQ
sauces. There have been four sauces that I have
really liked. One made by a friend of mine,
Mark, using a home canned tomatoes with
habaneros, one made by Bob using Chipotle
peppers, an eastern style sauce my grandmother
used to make which would light you up, and a
blackberry vinegar based sauce I had in
Asheville. Henry's sauce was very good and now
makes the list of those I like. It is more
reminiscent of a KC style sauce. It started out
sweet and finished with a bit of a spicy bite.
Well done on the sauce! The sides offered
sounded good to me but I settled for a salad, my
one concession to the doctor's orders to get a
little more green to my diet.
I saw that they had bread pudding on the menu
and the sample that I tried was very good. It
would do Commander's Palace justice! This is a
must try if you like BBQ. I hope my job brings
me bake through the area or at least a long road
trip brings me back.

been here a few
times...the waitress is very friendly, and
always remembers us. very local feel...
the burgers and chicken are great...my fella
likes the pork sandwich. its great food for
what it is - local, homemade, nothing fancy, but
tasty. way way way way WAY better than willys,
the only other "barbecue" place in monterey.
have to give it a serious nod for being budget
friendly as well...two of us can eat there,
drink there, and tip well for less than 40
bucks...
